Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the decision would ease evacuation efforts and speed up financial aid for victims.
After an emergency government meeting, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced a state of natural disaster in the flooded areas to facilitate evacuation and rescue operations, as well as to speed up financial support for the victims.
"I have approached the Minister of Finance and for now we have provided financial reserves for the needs of the locations and people affected by the floods. At this point we have one billion zlotys. The Minister of Finance has assured me, in accordance with our expectations, that no there will be a lack of means for direct and long-term aid," he said.
At least five people have died and thousands have been evacuated as heavy flooding from torrential rains continues to affect central Europe.
