Citizens rise in protest, China eases some of the anti-covid measures

The Chinese authorities have eased some anti-covid measures, after the protests that "exploded" in the western region of China, Xinjiang.

Restrictions within the framework of the "zero-COVID" strategy had been in place for three months in that city. The riots were sparked after 10 people were killed in a fire that engulfed a building.

The delay in bringing the flames under control caused the revolt of the citizens. The latter oppose the policies of the Chinese leadership towards Covid-19.

During the Xinjiang lockdown, some residents had their doors chained shut. Many believe such tactics may have prevented residents from escaping Friday's fire.
