Switzerland/ The scaffolding of the 19-story building collapses, three employees

At least three people were killed and eight others injured when scaffolding collapsed from the facade of a 19-story building in Switzerland.

Foreign media reports that the scaffolding reached a height of 60 meters, and as a result, the builders who were climbing it fell.

Police said three workers were killed. Of the injured, four are in serious condition and one had to be transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, the rest have minor injuries.

"One or two people are still missing," police spokesman Jean-Christophe Soterel told AFP.

Firefighters are known to have conducted searches under the ruins of the pier, while others have tried to stabilize its remaining part, which did not fall.

The police spokesman said that the cause of the accident has not yet been determined and that the prosecutor's office is conducting a preliminary investigation.

According to RTS public television, the collapse was caused by the fall of the elevator used by the builders to climb themselves, but also to raise various materials, up to the top floor of the building. Falling, he is said to have taken the scaffolding with him.

“I saw the elevator going up and then, suddenly, I heard a loud noise. Everything collapsed," said an eyewitness to the tragedy.

The workers told AFP that there had been no safety problems until then. Some, who asked to remain anonymous, suggested the elevator collapsed because it was overloaded.

"It lasted at least seven seconds. I thought it was a bomb," a passer-by told RTS.
