Tickets for the NBA game, Rama: I didn't buy it, it was an invitation from a friend, whom I don't declare
Prime Minister Edi Rama responded to the opposition's accusations regarding the basketball ticket where the head of government watched an NBA game in the USA.
Invited to Opinion, Rama said that the ticket in question has been reserved by people who have been doing this for years. He stated that there is no ticket received or purchased. The case, according to him, is the same as being invited to a restaurant or coffee shop.
When asked who is the person who invited him, Rama said that he is a friend with no connection to Albania and there is no reason to declare it because it is not a gift, but an invitation.
Part of the conversation:
Blendi Fevziu: How did that basketball ticket work? Mr. Meta for 15 thousand Euro operations in Vienna is where he is. You sit there on that basketball bench. How much was the ticket?
Edi Rama: Thank you for asking me this question.
Blendi Fevziu: How much did it cost?
Edi Rama: That ticket is neither bought nor sold. They are places reserved by people who have taken them for years.
Blendi Fevziu: In this particular case, who was it?
Edi Rama: What does it matter who it was? My friends... And who wanted to give me this pleasure. In America this is the same as inviting someone to a restaurant.
Blendi Fevziu: Friends who have interests in Albania, or friends who have nothing to do with Albania?
Edi Rama: Not at all. Would he bribe me with the ticket? These are useless conversations, Fevzi now. I neither received a ticket, nor saw a ticket, nor did I make anyone buy a ticket, nor did anyone buy a ticket. In the USA reserved seats are in all kinds of sports. They are booked by people not just for themselves to go every time, but also to invite friends as they are invited to a restaurant, as they are invited to a coffee shop. Since you opened the issue of gifts, I am telling you. I am the first prime minister in the history of this country. Now I am not including the time of communism because then there were no such that every gift with the gifts that come to me a delegation comes and leaves gifts. Gifts on certain occasions are of great value. I created a museum in the prime minister's office with the gifts I received and every gift that comes to me is registered as the property of the Republic of Albania. And only in valuable watches that are registered as the property of the Republic of Albania, very large amounts are involved. So to be very clear.
Blendi Fevziu: My question is who is the person who invited you?
Edi Rama: It is a friend with no connection to Albania and I have no reason to declare it because it is not a gift. It's an invitation. It's the same, then we have to declare with whom we were in the restaurant, with whom we were in the cafe. We do not have these obligations. Let me explain my question is. Have these other prime ministers received gifts? That when I went to the Prime Minister, I found "terra vuota", nothing. My question is, did they receive gifts or not?
