Floods in Vlora, the mayor: There is still water, 55 people evacuated

The mayor of Vlora, Ermal Dredha, has shown the current situation after the floods from the intense rains that engulfed yesterday.

In MCN, he said that there is still water in some areas of Vlora.

He informed that a total of 55 people were evacuated, who were provided with clothes and food. The mayor accepts the need for improvement in the sewage infrastructure, but emphasizes that the rainfall has been high and the impact on the city was inevitable.

"The situation is improving, there are still areas that are in the presence of water. It is the "Kushtrimi" neighborhood, a part of it is under water, we brought some tools to draw the water, it is also the area of Albano and Romina, and the area of the Orthodox Church. We received a lot of support from the institutions, AKUM, the Ministry of Defense, which brought us tools to help us, pump trucks and probes.

The area of garages or parking lots of buildings remains problematic, it is definitely a priority, but first free the territory from water and then we move on to the garages. We have evacuated almost 55 people, who we have placed in the dormitories of the Industrial and Medical School. We provided them with clothes and food. There are 62 while with the presence of water. We convened the Emergency Council where Minister Pirro Vëngu was also present.

The sewage infrastructure definitely needs improvement, but all that rainfall that came yesterday, which was 180 mm for two and a half hours, would definitely have this kind of impact in the city. All the flooding has come from the high water channel, there are definitely illegal constructions there. It was over the receiving capacity of the canal, which caused the water to overflow towards the city".
