Former General Director of the State Police, Ardi Veliu, spoke today in the capacity of Deputy Minister of Energy in the Commission for Production Activities.

Veliu has presented a draft law aimed at protecting flora and fauna, more specifically the draft law on Albania's accession to the international anti-Fouling convention. This bill aims to limit the use of poisonous substances for painting ships, which harms aquatic life.

"The draft law that we are presenting today, aims to accede to the international convention on damage control by anti-vegetative protection systems on ships, or as it is otherwise called Anti-Fouling. Anti-Fouling systems are materials that serve to paint the bottom of ships in order to prevent the adhesion of plant life, such as algae and mollusks, which in turn affect the reduction of ship speed, increase consumption and air pollution. In the early periods, in order to prevent the animals from climbing to the bottom, the ships used poisonous substances such as arsenic or other substances which, in addition to mollusks and algae, also damaged the underwater environment, negatively affecting the food chain of living things. biodiversity. said Veliu.

We recall that Ardi Veliu resigned a few months ago from the position of General Director of the State Police, a position he held for 5 years. Gledis Nano took his place. Veliu's departure from the State Police was initially rumored to be a dismissal by the government, while Prime Minister Rama later published a letter in which Veliu demanded his resignation.
