Xhixho: Rama's government is hindering Albania's path towards the EU

Vice President of the Freedom Party, Erisa Xhixho, has reacted to the recent decision of the European Union to indefinitely postpone the intergovernmental tables for the opening of two groups of chapters for Albania.

She emphasized that this decision is further proof of the Rama government's failure to meet the conditions for the country's European integration.

Statement by the Vice President of the Freedom Party, Ms. Erisa Xhixho

Dear citizens,

A few days ago, the "Rama" government received another slap from the European Union. The decision to indefinitely postpone the intergovernmental tables for the opening of the next 2 groups of chapters for Albania is further proof that misgovernance is hindering the country on its European journey. While Tirana loudly proclaims progress in the negotiations, Brussels continues to close the door to Tirana and the reason is clear: the conditions have not been met by Edi Rama's government.

What is hindering Albania on its journey towards Europe?

Corruption spread across every branch of central and local government, which has led to the imprisonment of half of Edi Rama's officials, collaboration with organized crime that has turned the country into a money laundering machine, and the placing of justice under the direct control and orders of the prime minister.

It is no coincidence that this decision comes precisely at the moment when Edi Rama is trying to lure Albanians with the empty promise of a European passport.

A government that has plunged the country into poverty, that has forced almost half of the population to leave, and that has put public assets at the service of a handful of people cannot in any way be Albania's passport to Europe.

It is paradoxical that a government that has not been able to keep even the promise of 24-hour water, made 12 years ago, promises Albanians that it will give them a European passport.

Edi Rama is openly deceiving with the promise of a European passport, feeding the illusion of free movement of labor with EU membership. It's all a lie! His new electoral fraud will be punished by vote on May 11, first by thousands of immigrants who have left because of his failed governance, but also by thousands of others who suffer its consequences every day.

Albanians are clear today that, with Edi Rama, there will never be a European Union for Albania. Because if we were to wait for that day with Edi Rama in power, no Albanian would remain in this country.

The indisputable condition that the government must urgently fulfill is free and fair elections. Through them, Albanians will be able to choose between a 10-year stagnation in the progress of negotiations or a governing program that guarantees, first and foremost, a livable Albania.

The May 11 elections are an important test for Albania and its European journey, as guaranteeing free and fair elections remains the number 1 condition for advancing towards the EU. Through them, Albanians will be given the opportunity to vote for the best alternative, the one that guarantees a new economic model, a real fight against corruption and organized crime, and above all, the rule of law.

Our five-priority program for 4 million Albanians will pave the way for an Albania that walks with confident steps towards the European Union. Democracy and the rule of law are non-negotiable for the European Union and we have all the will, energy and team to accelerate Albania's journey towards it by building European standards in our country.
