1 in 50 Albanians in Britain is behind bars.
According to official figures published by The Telegraph, more than 1,200 Albanians are in prison and thus lead the list of over 130 nationalities of prisoners in the country. After Albanians, come Kosovars and Vietnamese, Algerians, Jamaicans, Eritreans and Iraqis.
Full article from The Telegraph:
One in 50 Albanians in Great Britain is in prison, according to analysis that reveals the first league table of criminality by nationality.
More than 1,200 Albanians have been sent to prison from a migrant population of nearly 53,000 Albanians living in Great Britain who do not have British citizenship, according to a Telegraph analysis of official data.
They top a table of more than 130 nationalities ranked in the number of prisoners per 10,000 of the UK population from their countries. Albanians are followed by Kosovars, Vietnamese, Algerians, Jamaicans, Eritreans, Iraqis and Somalis.
The analysis suggests that the overall imprisonment rate for foreign nationals is 27 per cent higher than for British citizens. It shows 18.2 prisoners per 10,000 migrants compared to 14 per 10,000 in the UK. German, Italian, Indian, Greek, American, Sri Lankan, French and Chinese nationals are least likely to be imprisoned.
It is the first time that such an analysis has been carried out amid claims that there was an "institutional cover-up" over the publication of the migrant crime rate.
Senior Tory MPs have called on the Tory and Labor governments to release data from the likes of Denmark and some US states, which would allow for tables of the crime rate of immigrants in each nation to be compiled.
While data on nationalities among the incarcerated population reveal the rate of serious crime committed by non-UK nationals, information on offenses committed by migrants for which they are not incarcerated is not published.
A supporting amendment to Rishi Sunak's Sentencing Bill would require the Government to submit a report to Parliament each year detailing the nationality, visa and asylum status of every offender convicted in English and Welsh courts in the previous 12 months. The bill was rejected because of the elections.
Supporters, including Conservative leadership contender Robert Jenrick and former minister Neil O'Brien, argue that such data would allow the Home Office to tighten visa and deportation policies for higher-linked nationalities of crime in the UK.
O'Brien said it was a "fascinating" analysis by The Telegraph, which revealed "huge differences" between nationalities.
They are at least 25 times more likely to be in prison than foreign nationals with the lowest incarceration rate and at least seven times the rate for British citizens at 14.27 per 100,000 of the population.
Germany had the fewest, at 4.68 per 10,000 (one in 2,000), followed by Italy (4.96), India (6.24), Greece (6.36), the US (7.27), Sri Lanka (8.17), France (8.64) and China (9.39).
A government spokesman said: “This Government is committed to delivering justice for victims and safer roads for our communities. Foreign nationals who commit crimes should have no doubt that the law will be enforced and, where appropriate, we will pursue their deportation."
