The Court of Appeal today upheld the decision of the First Instance Court in Elbasan for the sentencing of 4 juvenile perpetrators who were found guilty of the murder of 15-year-old Fatjon Bici, an event that occurred on May 16, 2023 in Gramsh.

On April 29 of this year, the Elbasan Court sentenced 4 minors to a total of 70 years in prison, but due to their age and the shortened trial, they were ultimately sentenced to a total of 46 years and 6 months.

During today's hearing at the Appeals Court, the victim's family requested that a summary trial not be granted, but the request was denied.

With today's decision of the Appeals Court, the suspected perpetrator of the crime, Ergi Karaja, and one of his accomplices were returned to their cells, after they had been under the security measure of "house arrest" for about a week, because the terms of the security measure of imprisonment had been exceeded.

After the Appeals hearing, Mustafa Bici, the father of the victim Fatjon Bici, spoke to the media, stating that he disagrees with the decision. 

" My name is Mustafa Bici, I am Fatjon's father. I have been coming to these doors for a year and a half and I still did not find justice with the trial that was given here in Tirana. The sentence given by the Elbasan court remains. I do not agree with this. What is 18 years in prison for a criminal? Is this fair? Even worse, they killed me for the second time. The criminal then went to sleep with his father, while my son is rotting in the ground. These people here give Yes to the Elbasan decision. I am not satisfied with the sentence they have given.

"I want the punishment they deserve, 27 years, what they deserve, not a reduction in sentence. They should take measures because I will do something else. Like they do to my son. Why is the state like this? Is it right to do this? I have done nothing because I expected justice, but if it is not resolved, I will do what I said," he declared.

More specifically, the suspected perpetrator of the crime, Ergi Karaj, was sentenced to 27 years, but will serve 18 years under the summary trial. While his accomplice, citizen O.Ç., was sentenced to 21 years in prison and will serve 14 years in prison under the summary trial.

The other minor, Xh.Ç, was sentenced by the Court to 12 years in prison, but with a summary trial it was reduced to 8 years, while citizen SM was sentenced by the Court to 10 years in prison and with a summary trial he will serve 6 years and 8 months in prison.

The serious incident took place just a few meters from the school, where the four minors had ambushed Fatjon Bici's cousin, with whom they had been in conflict on social media. Equipped with knives and fist-strengthening gloves, they attacked Fatjon's cousin, while the latter intervened to separate them, but was stabbed in the heart and killed.
