President Ilir Meta has appointed Artur Kalaja as a judge of the High Court. The decree of the Head of State enters into force immediately. The proposal to name the Castle came to Meta on July 19 from the High Judicial Council.

The Presidency informs that after reviewing the decision-making of the High Judicial Council and forwarding the proposal by this body, Meta has decided that Artur Kalaja will be the youngest member of the High Court.

With this appointment, the Supreme Court, as of today, is made up of 8 judges, out of the 19 members it must have, according to the decision of the HJC. The President reiterated his call on the HJC to continue its rapid engagement with the procedures for other appointments to the Supreme Court.

He demanded that the HJC act with independence, integrity, and transparency, in order to fill the Supreme Court as soon as possible with all the necessary judicial body.

The completion of the High Court and the functioning of the necessary bodies of the Courts of Appeal, according to Meta, is of vital importance for the country and is directly related to the European integration process, the stability of Albania, and respect for fundamental human rights and freedoms.
