Bekim Balaj has retired from the Albanian National Team at the age of 33. The Shkodran striker has communicated the decision to the AFL and Silvinho.
Balaj will always be remembered for the goal of the 1-0 victory in Portugal, which paved the way for Euro 2016 qualification.

"Bekim Balaj has decided to retire from the Albanian National Team. The red and black striker, who is active in the "Abyssnet Superiore" championship with Vllaznina, has communicated his decision to coach Silvinjo, the technical staff and the Football Federation.
During his career with the Red and Black National Team, Bekim Balaj was active in 48 matches, scoring 9 goals.
The first one is even more special, as the achievement against Portugal and Albania's historic victory with Bekim Balaj's goal in the "Estádio Municipal de Aveiro" made all Albanians everywhere in the world proud, paving the way for the first historic qualification of the national team in the European "France 2016".
Also, Balaj was part of the National Team in the European one where he was activated in the victory over Romania with the result 1-0.
The Football Federation thanks striker Bekim Balaj, for the extraordinary contribution made on the field of play with the red and black jersey, who has left an indelible mark in the history of Albanian football, and wishes him as much success as possible in the future".
