Water supply failure, only Lezha 24 hours/day, finally Vora and Kamza

In the entire country, only Lezha manages to have water supply 24 hours a day, the rest of the country fluctuates between different schedules and an average that still remains far from the national objective.

Data analyzed by the Water Regulatory Authority shows that for the past year, the average hours of water supply per day was 17.44 hours/day, with an increase of 1.14 hours/day compared to the previous year, which was at the same level as 2022 with 16.3 hours/day.

"The good performance objective set by the WRA of 18 hours per day has not yet been achieved at the sector level, while for 10 companies this indicator is over 18 hours/day of water supply. In the water supply and sewerage sector, for 2024, 14 regional water supply companies and 3 existing water supply companies have operated, which are: SHUK Tirana, SHUK Kamzë and SHUK Vorë.

The reorganization of companies in implementation of DCM No. 302, 11.05.2022, was accompanied by its dynamics and problems that are reflected in the main performance indicators of companies in particular and the sector as a whole.

During 2024, the company that reported uninterrupted 24-hour/day drinking water supply is SHRUK Lezhë, which for this year has an increase of +5.8 hours/day. The reason is related to the commissioning of the new water supply for the Laç area," WRA argues.

According to the data, the largest increase was recorded by SHRUK Saranda, with +11.00 hours/day, and SHRUK Dibër with +10.00 hours/day, as new investments have been completed for both companies.

According to the Entity, the duration of water supply varies from 4 - 24 hours/day, of which 10 companies perform above the good level with 18 hours/day and 7 companies are below this level, with no improvement in this indicator compared to 2022 and 2023. While the regional company UK Vlorë has a decrease in this indicator by -0.45 hours/day.

"The most problematic are the two regionalized companies: UK Vore with 8 hours of water supply and UK Kamza with 4 hours of water supply, on the border of poor performance and they must work seriously to improve next year."
