The rental car market is booming, we're not yet ready for electric vehicles
The lack of a good public transport connection in the country on the one hand, and experiencing a more independent experience on the other, is orienting foreign tourists more and more towards rental cars.
Market companies report a rapid increase in demand since the first months of this year and the peak is expected to be during July-August, following the trend of tourism. During this period, those who preferred to rent a car were mainly expatriates visiting their homeland and a limited number of foreigners.
Now the second group is dominating. "We confirm a significant increase in demand estimated at around 30% compared to 2022. Naturally, the war in Ukraine penalizes the tourist flow of the territories directly affected by the conflict", affirms Fabio Penzavecchia, Sicily by Car administrator.
Another trend that is observed in the growing demand for rental cars, according to the companies, is that of the customer who chooses this service. Youth, mainly European, has become an important part of the market. Eliana Bakiri, administrator of "Top Tour", says that the increase in the number of festivals taking place in the country, especially along the coast, has had an impact on this.
"Customers range in age from 19 years old to 73 years old as far as we are allowed, but this year's season is very focused on young people. I think that the festivals that have started to be organized, where mainly young people go, have had an impact on this part.
Meanwhile, when we talk about intermediate vacations that may be during Easter or some other holidays, those who come to Albania are family members. Even in the summer, family members dominate", says Mrs. Bakiri.
High demand increases the fleets of car rental companies
Before the pandemic, the rental car market in Albania was following a smooth but growing curve, always influenced by tourism. The COVID-19 that globally paralyzed every sector in 2020, gave the same negative impact to this industry as well.
As the recovery began in 2021, the next crisis was in the car market. The shortage of raw materials and semiconductors created a bottleneck in the provision of new fleets and increased the price of used vehicles.
Today companies recognize that we have entered a calmer terrain and the increase in demand has brought a greater carelessness in the growth of rental fleets.
Almost all of them report an increase in the number of tools at their disposal.
" We have increased the overall fleet by 10%, meanwhile, since we operate in 9 countries, we also have the flexibility to move vehicles from one market to another, according to demand. For example, in the month of March, we brought the fleet we have in Austria to Albania, leaving some equipment here.
Do t’i kthejmë sërish në tetor.
We are surprised by the great interest that the market (especially the global one) has for rental cars and accommodation. Undoubtedly, this growing demand is closely related to the development of tourism in Albania.
Our predictions, based on the experience so far, are that the demand for these products will continue to grow, given that the demand to visit our country is always growing from foreigners" - affirms Nikolla . According to him, the platform has about 500 tools registered today./monitor
