In Albania there are 868 thousand vehicles, 36% of them are older than 20 years

Every year more and more vehicles circulate on the country's roads. Most of them are with manual transmission.

Although in 2023 there is a slight decrease in vehicles over 20 years old (by 1.4%), they continue to dominate the vehicle fleet in the country, occupying 36% of the total, from 40% a year ago.

"Volkswagen" (18.6%) and "Mercedez Benz" are the most preferred brands, with the latter falling from the throne as they are no longer bought as much as they used to be. The vehicles are mostly diesel (almost 74%). In terms of power, cars with a motor volume >3000 cc are showing the biggest increase.

According to INSTAT data, in 2023, the total number of road vehicles with "active" and "temporarily unregistered" status is 867,765 vehicles, from 796,438 vehicles registered until 2022, increasing by 9.0%. Road vehicles by type

Tirana and Durrësi lead

In 2023, the district with the highest number of road vehicles is the Tirana district with 34.7%, followed by the Durres district with 13.4% and the Fier district with 9.3%. The same trend according to the districts is also observed for road vehicles.

Referring to the data according to the type of transmission, it is noted that the largest weight is occupied by road vehicles with manual transmission with 61.9% of the total road vehicles.

77% of cars are older than 10 years

Road vehicles by brand

Among the main brands of cars circulating in the country, the "Volkswagen" brand dominates (18.6%), followed by "Mercedez Benz" (18.1%), and "Daimler Chrysler" (9.8%).

In 2023, the "Mercedez Benz" brand is registered as the most used brand of vehicles registered with a production year before 2000 and 2011-2023. The "Volkswagen" brand is registered as the most widespread brand of automobiles manufactured in 2000-2010.

Road vehicles by fuel, diesel dominates

The largest number of cars that circulated in our country in 2023 used "Diesel" fuel, accounting for 73.5% from 73.7% in 2022, followed by cars that use "Gasoline" fuel with 16.3 % to the total number of cars from 16.7% that this group occupied until 2022.

There is an increase in the number of electric cars by 2.3 times more and hybrid cars by 2.2 times more, compared to 2022.

The number of buses registered in 2023 that used "Diesel" fuel has increased by 4.1%, while the number of buses that have used "Diesel+Electric" fuel has increased by 41.9% compared to 2022. .

Cars with high engine power are increasing

The number of cars registered in 2023 according to engine volume >3000 cc has increased by 16.2%, the number of cars with engine volume <=2000 cc has increased by 9.3% and with engine volume 2001-3000 cc has increased by 8.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The most widespread volume of cars with "Diesel" fuel is 1400 cc-1999 cc, accounting for 54.0% of the total with diesel fuel.

The most widespread volume of cars with gasoline fuel is under 1399 cc, accounting for 59.2% of all cars with gasoline fuel.
