The commissioner for enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, from the Hungarian parliament said that he hopes that next month Albania will start discussions on the first chapter of EU membership, that on fundamental rights.
"Now the question before us is not if we will accept the Balkan states into the European family, but when this will happen. The sooner we fully integrate these countries, the stronger and more stable the stability will be. in our continent. In these years we have made important decisions for the opening of negotiations for Albania and North Macedonia by holding the first intergovernmental conferences with them.
I hope that next month we will open the first chapter of negotiations on basic issues with Albania and possibly also with North Macedonia, depending on the approval of the constitutional changes. We have designed and implemented instruments such as the economic growth plan of 6 billion euros to accelerate the integration of the Western Balkan states," he said.
