"Nile fever" virus in Albania, Alimehmeti: There is no place to panic,

The "Nile fever" virus has arrived in Albania, for the first time after 13 years.

Doctor Ilir Alimehmeti, in an interview for RTSH, said that there is no place for panic and that it is a virus that affects the elderly and the sick more. Alimehmeti called on citizens to avoid environments with mosquitoes.

"It is a disease that affects small numbers of people and a good part of them do not show any symptoms, not realizing that they are affected. A small number who show symptoms will mainly have body aches, headaches, fever. And a very small percentage will have situations like meningitis and encephalitis, and of the latter, out of 10 people affected, 9 of them survive. So there is a very low degree of danger to life.

Even this 0.1 percent that risks affects the third age more, for sick people and others. So it is a virus that we know, a virus with symptoms that we know and with a mortality rate of 0.1 percent and an opportunity to pass into severe forms, mainly in the elderly.

It is difficult to identify as it has the same symptoms as those that circulate during the summer season. Only if signs such as nervousness, loss of consciousness appear, these are signs of the central nervous system. It is not transmitted from person to person, but only by mosquito infection. Beware of mosquitoes as they can transmit many diseases," said the doctor.
