Hovenier: Kosovo and Serbia did not take their obligations seriously!

Former US Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, has stressed that the Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities remains an unchangeable obligation for Kosovo, stating that this commitment was made in 2013 and is still in force. In a statement to the Atlantic Council, Hovenier said that the new European Union envoy, Peter Sorensen, must work to ensure that Kosovo and Serbia fulfill the commitments made.

Hovenier added that this commitment, reiterated in the 2023 Basic Agreement and its Implementation Annex, must be implemented without further delay. He also stressed the importance of protecting the rights of minority communities, especially Serbs in Serbia, noting that Kosovo and Serbia have not yet taken their obligations to implement the agreements seriously.

Finally, he warned that the country must protect multiethnicity and provide communities with special protection, as envisioned in the vision of independence.
