KFOR: Any decision regarding the opening of the Ibri bridge must be taken within

The NATO mission in Kosovo (KFOR) has reiterated that any decision on the opening of the main bridge over the Iber River must be taken within the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade, mediated by the European Union.

Through a press release, KFOR has said that they will not hesitate to address any development that may affect the security environment and regional stability.

" KFOR units maintain a permanent, fixed presence on the bridge and continue to conduct regular patrols in the surrounding areas to ensure stability and security, for the benefit of all local communities. We will not hesitate to address any development that may affect the security environment and regional stability, in full respect of our UN mandate," the statement said.

KFOR has reiterated its position that any decision regarding the opening of the Bridge should be taken within the framework of the Brussels dialogue.

"KFOR's position has been clear and consistent all along. Any decision regarding the opening of the main bridge over the Iber River must be taken within the EU-mediated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina", it continues.

"KFOR continues to implement its mandate based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999 - to contribute to a safe and peaceful environment for all people and communities living in Kosovo and freedom of movement, at any time and impartially. KFOR has a visible, flexible and well-equipped stance. KFOR acts as a third security responder, in close coordination with the Kosovo Police and the EU Rule of Law Mission (EULEX), which are the first and second security responders respectively.” , the announcement concludes.
