Erion Veliaj was arrested on Monday on charges of corruption and money laundering, while SPAK imposed the security measure "house arrest" on his wife, Ajola Xoxa.

Veliaj is accused of having approved with his signature the distribution of public funds and construction permits to several commercial entities closely linked to him. According to SPAK investigations, the Veliaj-Xoxa couple are accused of wasting around 850 thousand euros on unbridled luxury.

But, this money, spent mainly by Ajola on clothing and jewelry, the couple once sold as savings that they kept in a "little piggy bank".

In fact, at that time, in a television interview, Veliaj said that they lived a modest life with their savings piggy bank, and Ajola approved with a laugh.

"We live a very modest life, it's a shame to say it, but we have a small piggy bank from what we put into savings," Veliaj declared.

"It's very well-established as a way to save ," Ajola continued.

"We don't recommend keeping your savings in the bank. What we can say is that we have a small pocket and so we always unintentionally put something aside and when it becomes enough we always find a quick and cheap way to travel and we do it ," said Veliaj.

But, SPAK says the opposite in its investigations, which does not tell us about a "little piggy bank", but about a pure scheme of profit and money laundering.

Ajola Xoxa, within 4 years, has purchased undeclared clothes and jewelry in the amount of 86 million lek, or about 850 thousand euros.
