Noc Rroku came out in Shpirag

In the summer of 2023, from Vermoshi to Konispol, there was nothing to talk about but the big news: every Albanian would become a sheikh. Wow!

In words that would make even Nostradamus blush with envy, the Prime Minister, in August 2023, (after inspecting the construction site), declared that the oil discovered in the heart of Shpirag was not just oil like all the others. No! This was the most virgin, purest, most premium oil than Saudi Arabia's own oil! And this had come out of the laboratories of the Netherlands, tested, blessed and approved to be poured directly into ... the bank accounts of Albanians. All that remained was a formality, a small test and Albania would officially be a superpower ... oil.

To further the dream, the government announced a Sovereign Fund that same day. Norwegian model. When it comes to staggering wealth, we cannot be compared to Nigeria, but to Norway. We are close, no wonder! Pensions would increase, education would explode in innovation, healthcare would become like in Vienna, Albania would become like Switzerland and, even, there would be money to build incinerators in every city.

Even with oil, the same movie that has been seen dozens of times was repeated: promises gave way to...promises.

On February 6, 2025 (yesterday), the dream was shattered. SHELL, the company that was supposed to make us rich, said it spent 1.1 billion Euros without any results.

Instead of a river of oil, Shpirag turned out to be a black hole from which "black gold" could be extracted, but as the people of Durrës say: "salt is cheap in Durrës, but the rent on the road eats it up."

The Sovereign Fund? Even though it went through the famous Harvard procedures and was studied with the care of a student the night before the exam, the fund remained a hologram that disappeared along with the hopes. The fund is gone, but the Sovereign remains! Instead of higher pensions, we now have the spring bonus.

One might say disappointment. But a magic formula has also been found to manage collective disappointment. A new promise of sorts!

Noc Rroku came out in Shpirag. But now we have our hopes in hydrogen in Bulqiza!

In conclusion, we did not receive premium oil, but the promises were and will be premium. Happy for us!
