Alec Baldwin reaches settlement with family of slain filmmaker Halyna Hutchins

The family of Halyna Hutchins, the filmmaker killed in the 2021 film "Rust," and Alec Baldwin have reached a settlement in a wrongful-death lawsuit filed against the actor and others, according to a statement released by the actor's attorney. The lawsuit, filed in February in Santa Fe, against Baldwin, the film's production companies, his producers and other key crew members, alleged numerous industry standard violations.

In a statement, Matthew Hutchins, husband of the late Halyna Hutchins, revealed that he will now be an executive producer on the film. He noted that the case will be dismissed and Rust will resume filming with the entire original principal cast on board in January 2023.

"We all believe that Halyna's death was a terrible accident. I'm grateful that producers and the entertainment community have come together to honor Halyna's late work," Hutchins said in the statement.

"Throughout this difficult process, everyone has maintained a specific desire to do what is best for Halyna's son. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation," Alec Baldwin's attorney Luke Nikas of Quinn Emanuel said in a statement.

The film's director Joel Souza, who was also injured in the shooting, is expected to return to the film.
