Honored with the title "Honorary Citizen" in Gjirokastra, former Greek

Former Greek President Karolos Papoulias has died at the age of 92.

Papoulias served two terms as president, from 2005-2015. He was also Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1985-1989 and 1993-1996. He was a senior member of the Socialist Party PASOK and a close associate of its leader and former Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou.

Papoulias has served for 26 years as a deputy of the Ioannina district.

In 2017, Karolos Papoulias was awarded the high title "Honorary Citizen" by the Municipality of Gjirokastra, for his contribution to the friendly relations between Albania and Greece.
