The first Albanian Prime Minister, how did Dritan Abazovic climb to the top of the Montenegrin government?
The 2020 elections in Montenegro were the most successful step in Dritan Abazovic's political career. Today, he was elected Prime Minister of Montenegro.
But how did Abazovic rise to the helm of the Montenegrin government?
Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic gave the mandate to form the new government to the "vagabond", as the politician from Ulcinj once called him, when Abazovic was one of the most vocal deputies against his government in the Montenegrin parliament.
The politician who does not like nationalism is still not well known in Kosovo; in Albania even less. But in Montenegro, the 36-year-old who had a doctorate in political science in Sarajevo is already among the top political figures, and not just for the place he has occupied in the hierarchy.
Before starting the race to the top of the state, Abazovic was a civic activist and a longtime collaborator with non-governmental organizations in the field of human rights. He was involved in projects related to the promotion of multiculturalism in the areas of the former Yugoslavia after the wars.
He then went to the land of multiculturalism. He had briefly resided in the United States while attending the State Department program in Washington DC
“Ne e dinim se do ta ndryshonim lojën.
The Civic Movement URA and the Citizens' League CIVIS, which had run in the parliamentary elections in Montenegro held in 2020 within the "Black on White" list, have proposed the formation of a minority government, as a model for overcoming political crisis in this state.
With the support of President Milo Djukanovic's Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), which has 30 deputies in the Montenegrin Parliament, Abazovic secured a sufficient number of votes in a no-confidence motion against the Government of Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic.
Abazovic's proposal for a pro-European government was also supported by the leader of the Albanian List, Nik Gjeloshaj, and that of the Albanian Coalition "Unanimity", Fatmir Xheka. The same was done by Ervin Ibrahimovic, the leader of the Bosniak Party. Express newspaper
