Senator Shaheen: Sunday's tragedy in Kosovo underscores the danger of

Senator Jeanne Shaheen, senior member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Wednesday condemned the violent attack on the Kosovo police, calling it "brutal" and demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice.

She expressed her deep regret for the murder of a member of the Kosovo police, Afrim Bunjaku.

In a statement to the Voice of America, Senator Shaheen, who heads the Senate's subcommittee on Europe and security cooperation, said that the developments were a consequence of the impasse between Kosovo and Serbia.

"It is extremely unfortunate that President Vucic and Prime Minister Kurti continue to refuse to show willingness to commit to sustainable solutions. Sunday's tragedy underscores the real danger of inaction – we cannot allow innocent lives to pay the price of political paralysis,” she declared.

Senator Shaheen called on the two leaders to work with the United States and the European Union, prioritize diplomatic efforts to avoid further violence, and return without delay to dialogue brokered by the European Union. VOA
