3,000 Turkish words in Albanian, Albania among the 10 countries with the most

The influence of the Ottoman Empire is evident in the everyday vocabulary of the Albanian language.

According to the Turkish Language Institute, around 3,000 words of Turkish origin are part of the Albanian language, ranking Albania among the countries with a strong linguistic influence from Turkish.

These words are not simply borrowings, but evidence of a long historical period where Albanian culture, administration, and daily life were intertwined with Ottoman elements.

Terms related to cuisine, clothing, construction, administration, and urban life often have Turkish roots, creating a special layer in the structure of the Albanian language.

Meanwhile, according to the Turkish institute, Serbia, Armenia and Bulgaria top the list with the largest number of Turkish loanwords.
