Oboti is one of the villages most damaged by the floods of recent years in Shkodër. Its inhabitants face almost every year the flood of water, which comes from the rains and discharges of hydropower plants.

Although 4 days have passed since the beginning of the floods, this village with about 100 houses can only be reached with the help of tall army vehicles. Meanwhile, residents say that they feel isolated and that no one is interested in their situation.

At the top of the road that leads to the village of Obot, of the "Ana e Mali" administrative unit, in Shkodër, for four days, numerous army forces have been standing with vehicles and boats to help the residents to move, as the road highway is still impassable for low vehicles. This scene is repeated almost every year, since the floods of 2010, when Shkodra was engulfed by massive floods, the consequences of which continue to this day to suffer the entire area of Subshkodra.

Since 2010, the resident of this village, Gregor Pema, tries to voice the concerns of his fellow villagers. He says that the village has about 100 houses, but some of the residents have left because the annual floods have damaged the lands and the economy of their families. For 4 days, Gregori says, Oboti has been under water. Yesterday, the water ran away 30-40 cm from the village, but today it returned even more. This, he says, has made livelihood and economy in Obot insecure.

" Few people appreciate these damages. The peasantry lives with this land. Can anyone tell me how to live with this land? Those who live here have no other income, no salary, they live with cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, wheat plots, cabbage plots, tomato greenhouses, and yams. These are the things of the village, of agriculture. If these are flooded, then the people become poor. But, the church made a call to the government; I wiped the tears of this people".

Since the floods started in Shkodër, 4 days ago, ministers, MPs and oppositionists rushed to the flooded areas, but in Obot, says Gregori, no one came, except the army forces, whom he thanks for their willingness to help the residents. Found for 4 days almost isolated in the flood zone, the Obotas today need support.

"Today the people of Oboti need a lot of gyana. They need to deliver a package of food to your home because there are families who cannot go out, who hardly open the door of the house. They need a bag of flour, a can of drinking water. The first point, this is the emergency".

Once an important port on the banks of the Buna River, today Oboti is vulnerable to the annual flooding. When the Vau te Deja hydropower plant was built, the residents were forced to move to the hills, where New Oboti was built. But, at the beginning of democracy, regardless of the danger, the Obotas returned to their old homes, in the field, where they have already remained unprotected.

"There were dams, Gjadër, Dajç, Darragjat, Bërdica, Samrishë, Pentar and up to Velipoja, the waters were released only in Obot's body, above Obot's houses. Therefore, it is a sin here to take the land tax from this people until a way is found for this water.

Since the massive floods of 2010, when the waters spread throughout the area of Ninshkodra, up to the neighborhoods at the entrance of the city, dozens of studies have been done and more than 12 million dollars have been spent on the embankment system and protection, and yet Oboti and Nänshkodra continue to flood almost every year. /VOA
