The street named after Ismail Qemali in the USA, the Albanian American community

The Albanian-American community in Staten Island paid tribute to Ismail Qemali, whose name already marks a street in the USA.

On June 3, crowds of Albanian-Americans gathered for a celebratory ceremony at the intersection of Seaview Avenue and Father Capodanno Blvd. in Midland Beach to immortalize Qemali with a street renaming ceremony attended by local and international dignitaries.

In attendance were Councilor David Carr, Mayor Vito Fossella and Assemblyman Michael Tannousis.

Albanian officials Floreta Faber, the ambassador of the Republic of Albania in Washington, DC, and Perparim Rama, the mayor of Pristina, the capital and largest city of Kosovo, were also part of the ceremony. The renaming of the street was made possible by two Staten Island residents, Naser Nika and Dr. Bahri Ceka.
