Silvio Berlusconi's son remembers his late father's words: He was

The coffin of the former Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, who died on Monday morning (June 12th) is in his residence at Villa San Martino, in Arcore.

Wednesday has been declared a day of national mourning, the first time this has happened for a former prime minister.

Tributes were also planned to be held today at the Mediaset company, but they were cancelled.

The son of the late former prime minister addressed the staff with a letter stating that "Berlusconi was always proud of you".

" Dear Mediaset, I feel the need to write to you because I know how important it was for my father to show you the great love and pride he has always felt for our company and for all of us", with these words to Italian media workers, Mediaset CEO Pier Silvio Berlusconi, 24 hours after his father's death.

"There are no words to describe my emotion every time he told me 'I'm proud of you and what you do.' And I always knew very well that he was addressing us all. Because I alone could not have done anything. Nothing. He was a man who gave so much, so much. He has always considered our company as his beloved creature. My father, our founder, has always loved you all," he added

A large banner with the words 'Thank you forever president' appeared this morning on a fence along the villa, signed by fans of Monza football club.
