Former President Obama turns positive with Covid-19

Former President Barack Obama has tested positive for Covid-19. He gave the news himself through a post on his official Twitter profile.

"I just got positive with Covid ," Obama wrote on Twitter. "I've had a sore throat for a few days, but I feel good. Michelle and I are thankful we were vaccinated and boosted, it has turned out negative.

"It's a reminder to get vaccinated if you have not already done so, even though the cases decrease," he added.

Covid-19-induced cases of the omicron variant of the coronavirus continue to fall in the US and other parts of the world. However, the virus is likely to be here to stay. Dr. Rochelle Ëalensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other senior health experts have suggested it may become a seasonal, flu-like virus.

Health officials say scientists are continuing to assess whether another boost vaccine will be needed.
