Israel says it has assassinated Iranian security chief Ali Larijani

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz claimed on Tuesday that Iran's security chief Ali Larijani was killed in an airstrike in Tehran.

No evidence has yet been published to support this claim.

If confirmed, Larijani would be the highest-ranking state figure to be assassinated since the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, on February 28, the first day of airstrikes by US and Israeli military forces against Iran.

Iran has attempted to refute this statement, publishing what is said to be a manuscript by Larijani dated March 17. A photo of his manuscript was also published on Larijani's X account - formerly Twitter.

The news about Larijani came after the Israeli military claimed to have also killed Gholamreza Soleimani, the commander of Iran's paramilitary Basij force, in the same wave of airstrikes on Tehran on March 16.

This statement has neither been denied nor confirmed by Iranian authorities./REL
