A 58-year-old man was shot dead in a firearm attack a few meters away from his home last night in the village of Rec in the Malësia e Madhe.

It is learned that the victim, Sokol Çelaj, who had only a few days to return from England, where he lived for 20 years, was in his Benz ML type car, together with his wife at the moment when he was shot with bullets, caused him immediate death, while his wife thankfully was not injured.

In her testimony to the police, the wife stated that a person came out in front of the car with a Kalashnikov and shot at them. She said she could not identify who the perpetrator was due to the darkness.

It is learned that the victim, known as a former police officer, killed a person with a state weapon in 1989, while the event at that time was considered accidental and Çelaj spent about 6 years in prison. It is not yet known if his murder was related to the 1989 event.

Shkodra Police has launched an investigation to fully clarify the circumstances of the event while the security cameras of businesses in the area are being seized to see the movements that took place shortly before the event.
