Fatmir Mediu arrives at the Special Court

GJKKO expected to take a decision today regarding the request of the lawyer of former minister Fatmir Mediu, for a partial re-examination for the cost of dismantling the Poliçan factory.

According to the lawyers of the former minister, the experts did not take into account a letter from the mechanical combine of Poliçan, from 2007, where the costs of dismantling the ammunition are calculated, considering its data to be falsified.

Lawyer Henrik Ligori has stated that three officials of the combine were criminally charged on suspicion of forgery, but then the Berat court, the Vlora Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court dismissed the charges against them. Thus, according to him, the data of the said letter were correct. Following this, the lawyer asked the court to take the three court decisions as evidence and to order the performance of a new partial expert report.

The former minister, Mediu, is being investigated for the "Gërdeci" case, a tragedy that took place on March 15, 2008, where 26 were killed and hundreds injured from the explosion of the weapons dismantling workshop. The media is being tried for two charges, that of "Abuse of Duty" and "Abuse of duty in cooperation with a military subject-command cadre". The former minister has denied the accusations against him, stating that during his duty he always followed the law.
