Joy Aoko, the 22-year-old from Kenya, passed away today in a hospital in her native country. Joy has been in serious health since August 2022.

The young woman was brutally raped by persons not yet identified. Joy lived in a rented apartment on "Pandeli Evangjeli" street. In August 2022, the 22-year-old woman was found unconscious near her apartment.

Joy had received serious body injuries and was rushed to the Trauma Hospital where she received treatment. The 22-year-old worked in a casino in the capital and lived in the room with a friend from Ghana.

According to the mother's testimony, given a few months ago on television, the last conversation she had with Joy was on August 13. Ruth said that 5 minutes after the last message, her daughter did not answer her phone.

"The other issue is the gate, they have a big gate that needs to stay closed from the outside and open from the inside. If you are outside, you must have keys. For me those 5 minutes after my daughter wrote me the last message, she got a call from someone to open that gate. Maybe he went down to open the door for someone he didn't know well ," said Ruth.

The 22-year-old's mother raises suspicions that someone called her daughter to open the outer gate of the building and that she may have been raped there.

Based on the forensic expertise, the injuries caused to the body are the result of being thrown from a height. It is suspected that Joy was raped and then thrown from a height.

Representatives of the embassy appeared at the end of January of this year, at Commissariat No. 1 in Tirana to get information about the investigations related to the rape of the 22-year-old. Soon after the meeting, Joy Aoko was transferred to a hospital in Kenya.
