Drug trafficking in Italy and Switzerland, 10 people arrested, "head"

A joint operation between the State Police, Italian authorities and the Security Office at the Italian Embassy in Tirana has led to the destruction of a criminal organization that was involved in drug trafficking to Italy and Switzerland.

The Florence court issued 12 arrest warrants, of which 10 were executed (9 in Italy and 1 in Albania), while 2 other citizens have been declared wanted.

In Fier, 41-year-old Edi Hoxha, also known as Edison Hoxha, suspected of being the organizer and coordinator of the criminal activity, was located and arrested. He was declared an international wanted person and is expected to be extradited to Italy.

According to Italian authorities, the criminal organization is suspected of trafficking cocaine and cannabis sativa between Albania, Italy and Switzerland during 2020-2021. For this activity, Hoxha has been assigned the security measure of “prison arrest”, an offense that provides for up to 24 years in prison according to the Italian Criminal Code.

The operation was codenamed "Fingerprint" and was carried out by Albanian narcotics investigation structures in cooperation with the Italian police.
