Fluminense Brazilian Marcelo was sent off after colliding with Luciano Sanchez during a Copa Libertadores clash in Buenos Aires, leaving the Argentino Jrs defender with a horrific knee injury.

Former Madrid man Marcelo was dribbling past Sanchez when his foot crossed the ball and caught the Argentine forcefully. The Argentina Jrs player's leg buckled down and was broken, with screams filling the pitch.

Marcelo realized that he had inadvertently committed a serious injury as he was seen in tears. The defender was punished with a red card, as he left the field with tears in his eyes.

"Today I had a very difficult moment on the field. I unintentionally hurt another player. I want to wish him a speedy recovery and all the strength in the world," Marcelo posted on Instagram.

His Brazilian club also posted a message of support on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter.

"Fluminense FC expresses its solidarity and wishes a speedy recovery to Argentinos Juniors defender Luciano Sanchez, who was injured in an accidental move in today's match," the statement said.
