Beware of the man with a shoe!

Beware of the man with a shoe!

Alfred Lela

In Greek mythology, Jason's return to his homeland meant the end for King Pelias, to whom the oracle had foretold that death would come from a man with one sandal'. Jason returned to take the king's throne, unjustly usurped by Pelias, his father's half-brother. The king sets a condition for Jason, promising to return to the throne if he brings the skin of the golden ram, which was guarded by a dragon that never slept.

The sequel is history, but this mythological episode is narrated here to make a connection between the 'barefoot' Jason and Eddie. Just as Pelia had to be guarded by the 'man in a sandal', should we also be careful of the man with one shoe? Unlike Jason and the Argonauts (they were so named in honor of the ship Argos with which they traveled to get the skin), Rama and his people have promised us the golden trophy several times. Their danger, or rather ours, is in the misunderstanding that, if the promised trophy is not brought up with the first time, nor the second, the third speaks of our thickness.

If the heroes of mythology were to be killed for the first time, we ordinary postmodernists (which is distinguished by the lack of great narratives — like the return of the golden skin, for example) —can not seek the death of ‘heroes’, but we suffice with avoidance.

This comes first from the realization that Rama is not Iason who appears for the first time on the island with a sandal of humility, and also, one foot barefoot sets off in search of the impossible. The opposite is true: Rama comes as Iason reincarnated, for the third time already. Once reborn, once in search of the helm of the ship (of the Argonauts !!!)) and, now for the third, with a shoe. The metaphor or subtext with the worn sole of the prime minister's shoe is, at its core, mythological-political. Like Jason, whose sandal fell into the water helping an old woman cross the river (the masked goddess Hera), Rama 'loses' the sole of his shoe in an attempt to save Albania.

The trophy that Jason seeks is the help of the gods to regain the throne of the kingdom, and the same seems to be begging Rama. But, both can have this chance only once. Rama has even consumed trophies twice and is looking for a third. The second time he is suspected of having done it with the help of 'gods' disguised as the 'Chams of Dibra' or the 'nietzche's' of Shijak, while the third… with his Argonauts who had just arrived from Nusret's dinner.

Beware of the man with a shoe! Especially when he has not been forcibly deprived of the kingdom, but otherwise given twice.

Take away the case when he comes with the golden skin and hands it to us before asking for something in return.
