Sirens are heard in Tel Aviv/ Hamas launches rockets from Gaza

Sirens warning of rocket attacks were heard in central Israel, including Tel Aviv, on May 26 for the first time in months, as Hamas - the Palestinian group designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union - said it fired a volley of rockets from Gaza.

The military wing of Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack, while rockets were heard in central Gaza.

The Israeli military said eight shells crossed into Israeli territory after being fired from the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where Israeli forces have recently launched an offensive.

The Israeli military said that "a number" of rockets were shot down.

Hamas has continued to attack communities around Gaza with rockets since it launched its war with Israel on October 7.
