His assassination, Trump vows to unite Americans

After the attempt to kill him, the former American president, Donald Trump, said that he has completely rewritten the speech he will deliver at the Republican Party Convention. Instead of criticizing the current president, Joe Biden, he said he will convey messages of unity.

"It will be a completely different speech. This is an opportunity to unite the country. I have been given this opportunity," Trump told the Washington Examiner newspaper.

Trump arrived in the state of Wisconsin, where, from today until July 18, the work of the Republican Party Convention is held. At this event, Trump is expected to be confirmed as the party's presidential candidate in the November 5 election.

He will deliver the speech on Thursday. He is also expected to announce who will be the candidate for his deputy. Trump, 78, was shot in the ear at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. His alleged assailant, Thomas Crooks, 20, was shot and killed by the Secret Service, but his motive remains unclear. One spectator was killed by the shooting, while two others were seriously injured.

Speaking to the Washington Examiner newspaper, Trump said that the evidence about what happened in Pennsylvania is being collected.

"The energy coming from the people there, in that moment... It's hard to describe how it felt, but I knew the world was watching. "I knew history will judge this and I knew I had to let them know I'm fine," Trump said.

In the November elections, Trump is expected to compete against the current president, Joe Biden. Biden, in a speech from the Oval Office on Sunday night, also called for national unity.

"In America, we resolve disputes at the ballot box, not with bullets," said Biden, adding that "hate should not have a safe harbor"./ REL
