Refugees in Tunisia for the Rama-Meloni agreement: We want security, we don't know what will happen to us in Albania
Immigrants and asylum seekers in the capital of Tunisia reacted to the Italy-Albania agreement for refugees, who will be brought to our country in two camps that are expected to be built in Gjadër and Shengjin.
Africa News writes that the emigrants who are currently housed in a camp in Tunis say that Albania is not the chosen destination for them. They asked for security as they do not know what awaits them after arriving in Albania.
"We need security because we don't know what will happen to us in Albania. If Europe's decision will help us, we support it and we hope they will help us because we are already running away from the war," said Ahmed, a Sudanese refugee.
However, others said they were open to going to Albania, especially those fleeing war or oppression in their countries.
Under the five-year agreement, Albania would host up to 3,000 migrants rescued from international waters at any one time.
As asylum applications are expected to take about a month to process, the number of asylum seekers sent to Albania could reach up to 36,000 in a year.
The agreement in question has been opposed by the opposition in Albania and Italy. Human rights organizations have even described it as a law that violates the freedom of immigrants.
