Large landslides in Naples, dozens missing

The bad weather that has engulfed Italy has caused huge landslides this morning on the island of Ischia, near Naples.

Earth, rocks and debris slid down the mountain behind the island's village, just as it did in November 2009. Local media reported dozens missing and eight dead.

"There are eight confirmed dead" , announced the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini, but the prefect of Naples Palomba is careful in giving the figures.

"At the moment there is news of one victim, of course confirmed, and there are dozens missing" , says the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi.

Rescue operations are continuing, while around 200 people have been evacuated.
