Russian television closes broadcast saying "No to war", recalls 'Swan Lake' as message

Russian television closes broadcast saying "No to war", recalls

"No to war" were the last words broadcast on the independent Russian television station Dozhd Tv Rain.

The television station shut down broadcasts following restrictions imposed by the Kremlin on reports from the Ukraine war.

Her staff signed, saying "no to war," before leaving the broadcast. Though removed from the airwaves, TV Rain aired Tchaikovsky's ballet, Swan Lake, a sign of the 1991 coup attempt against the government of then-Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

At the time, while that coup was taking place, ballet was constantly playing on television, an indication to viewers that something was wrong.
