Albania is expected to start negotiations with the European Union today.

Brussels has decided that the negotiations will start precisely with the most sensitive and important chapters, those related to the issues of the rule of law.

Prime Minister Edi Rama also arrived in Luxembourg, where the meeting of the Council of the European Union will be held.

The latter has prevented integration into the European Union for more than a decade.

However, in a short statement to the media, Rama admitted that the start of negotiations is a geopolitical decision, which has nothing to do with the reforms in the country, which have not progressed for 11 years.

He even thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for urging Europe to set the enlargement process in motion.

"For us, the EU is the only place where we want to be. The only place we want to leave future generations. This is a special moment thanks to Putin, who awakened the most skeptic who saw that the Balkans are necessary for a stronger Europe. We will do our best to ensure that this window of opportunity does not close without us. We have a mountain of homework, but we are climbing it with determination and we have no doubt that we will achieve what we need. We will make Albania ready for the European Union by 2030", said Rama.
