Marvel, which is owned by Disney, is notoriously secretive about its projects and wasn't too pleased when large chunks of "Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania" dialogue found their way online .
Disney has asked a court to compel Reddit and Google to identify who leaked a transcript for the latest Marvel movie weeks before its release. "Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania" premiered last month, but not before dozens of pages of dialogue were posted online and key story details were revealed.
The 63-page transcript was shared as a Google Docs file on a Reddit community page dedicated to sharing and discussing leaks and rumors about Marvel movies before they hit theaters. In an effort to find out who was behind the leak, Disney has asked a California court to issue a subpoena forcing Google and Reddit to share any "identifying information" they have about the account responsible.
The court filings were made by a Disney subsidiary called MVL Film Finance, which says the transcript was posted "on or about" January 20.
The transcript was posted to the MarvelStudiosSpoilers subreddit by an account called MSSmods, which is shared among community moderators. It contained a translation of the film's Portuguese subtitles, Variety reports, though not in chronological order. The subreddit has hundreds of thousands of users, but has been made private and new members must be approved.
The Google Docs file and Reddit post were both removed before either platform could take action. Reddit has not said whether it intends to comply with Disney's request.
" Reddit is committed to protecting the privacy of our users," it said in a statement.
"We have rigorous processes to assess legal claims and object where necessary."
