The High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) has reacted after the statements of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who during the meeting of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group called the prosecutor and judge who signed off on the arrest of Mayor Erion Veliaj right-wing extremists.

In an official statement, the KLP called for respect for the independence and professional integrity of prosecutors, emphasizing that the independence of this institution is fundamental for citizens' trust in justice and for guaranteeing a fair and transparent legal system.

"The High Prosecutorial Council reiterates its support for the prosecution institution to exercise its functions independently, impartially and in accordance with the law. Respect for these principles is essential for strengthening the rule of law," the KLP's response states.

The KLP called on all political actors not to interfere in the work of prosecutors and to allow them to perform their duties without external influences, emphasizing the importance of an independent judiciary in a democratic state.

Following previous positions on guaranteeing the independence of prosecutors, the High Prosecutorial Council reiterates its support for the prosecution institution to exercise its functions independently, impartially and in accordance with the law.
