Father Artur Liolin, chancellor of the Albanian Orthodox Archdiocese, the successor of Fan Noli, has passed away at the age of 80 in the United States of America.
The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania announced the news.
" A great loss for the family, for the church where he served and for the entire Albanian community in America. Father Arturi was a student of Monsignor Theofan Noli and devotedly continued his work", writes the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania.
The life and activity of Father Artur Liolini
Artur Evans Liolini was born on June 19, 1943 in New York, in a family originating from Boboshtica in Korça.
In 1967, he finished his studies in Art History (Middle Ages and Byzantium) at "Princeton" University.
In 1970, he became a priest in Boston and served the Albanian community in Saint George's Cathedral.
In 1975, he was appointed Chancellor of the Albanian Archdiocese of the Orthodox Church in America, which he served until his death.
During his service, Father Arturi enlivened the spiritual life and activities of the Albanian Orthodox community.
He has made several visits to Albania, being a benefactor of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania and has supported the work of its revival from the ruins of the atheistic regime.
In 2010, he welcomed Archbishop Anastas to Boston, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Albanian Archdiocese.
