Albano Zhapaj, the education expert, has today presented his candidacy for the DP primaries for the Municipality of Fier. In a statement from the blue headquarters, Zhapaj talked about himself and his career.

"I felt that I should be a part of this race for the city of Fier, since finding the primaries coincides with my philosophy of work and life, where the battles for democracy are fought by candidates from the will of the sovereign, and not by appointed candidates, as we are used to seeing in these last 10 years.

My name is Albano Zhapaj, lecturer at the university, former economic immigrant in Italy from 1992 to 2007, the year when I voluntarily decided to return and contribute to my country, after I studied at the University of Padua, in the Psychology-Pedagogy profile with excellent results.

I started my career as a lecturer at the Universities of Padua and Vicenza, to continue it further in my country, such as at: the University of Tirana, where in addition to being a lecturer I also held the position of Director of Curricula of this institution, at the University of Durrës, of Elbasan, as well as other institutions of higher education in Kosovo and North Macedonia. For eight years I worked at the Ministry of Education and Science, in important tasks", said Zhapaj.

The latter underlined the importance of freedom and its non-infringement by the rulers. While highlighting some of Fier's problems, he emphasized that local government should be based on accountability.

"I firmly believe that human freedom and dignity are inalienable values and that none of us can live without them. The right to be free, the right to live with dignity in the country, the right to build life and happiness in the land where you were born, are rights given by God, by no one else. No government or government has the right to touch, harm, remove or alienate them, neither today nor ever.

Based on these premises, I decided to run in the primaries for Fier, as I cannot accept that I and my fellow citizens live in a city where young people leave because they have no job, no hope, I cannot accept that every year schools and kindergartens are closed, neighborhoods and villages are emptied, I cannot accept that the land is empty and not worked, that the houses are abandoned, that the graves of the ancestors are abandoned, just because a handful of rulers have decided to put us on the market.

The model of a local government that I have in mind is that model where the citizen holds the local government accountable and not the other way around, where the citizen is an active part of the city's life and decision-making, and not a victim of bad, clientelistic, corrupt and oppressive..." , declared Zhapaj, among other things.
