Residents of Tropoja receive free medical services in Kosovo: If it weren't for Gjakova, we would die

Residents of Tropoja receive free medical services in Kosovo: If it weren't

The residents of Bajram Curri, but also of Has, seem to have found the solution to receiving healthcare services by crossing the border to Kosovo.

The residents themselves say that, whether for medical visits or surgical interventions, they go to the Gjakova hospital, as the Bajram Curri hospital lacks many specialist doctors, both for adults and for pediatrics.

"There is no doctor in Tropoja, we go to Gjakova. It is close, there are good doctors," says a citizen of Bajram Curri. "If the service is not in Gjakova, we will all die," says an elderly man, "we are finished." "

The situation of the lack of doctors at the Bajram Curri Hospital is also acknowledged by the director of this hospital, who lists some of these shortages. “There has been a shortage of doctors for several years, especially cardiologists, pediatricians, resuscitators… We have requested patronage from Kukës to come to us at least twice a month, but it seems that Kukës also has problems,” says Kujtim Rexha, director of the “Bajram Curri” Hospital.

On the other hand, the Gjakova hospital, which has not only the necessary staff of doctors and specialists, but also the equipment that such an institution should have, offers free services to citizens from northern Albania, just like the residents of Gjakova.

"We have approximately 50 patients per day, all services are also provided by Albanian citizens," says Hilmi Shala, director of Gjakova Hospital.

In addition to the residents of Bajram Curri and Has, there are also many residents of Kukës and other villages near the border who go to hospitals in Gjakova and Prizren to receive health services in the absence of such services near their residential centers./ A2 CNN
