The former Minister of the Interior, Saimir Tahiri, was released from prison with the Court of Elbasan deciding to leave him under "house arrest".

He was sentenced on February 4, 2022 to 5 years in prison, which due to the shortened trial was reduced to 3 years and 4 months in prison, as for months he had requested freedom from the Court through recognition of the time of detention.

Tahiri spent about 16 months in prison. where he was initially in a cell in Peqin and then in Lushnja prison. 

The former minister was released on bail after having served most of the sentence while facing the court, as part of it was spent on probation during the decision.

According to the prosecution, Tahiri had favored the criminal group led by Moisi Habilaj, which had been operating in the Italian state. SPAK demanded 12 years in prison for Tahir, but GJKKO decided to requalify the criminal offense and sentenced him only for abuse of office with 5 years in prison, which due to the shortened trial was reduced to 3.4 years in prison.
