41st International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners

The 41st International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners (ICDPPC) continued its works on Wednesday in Tirana, with Commissioner Besnik Dervishi addressing the participants. He spoke of the growing importance of personal data protection, mentioning also developments in artificial intelligence.

“We need to reflect on how to educate the public so it has more controls over their digital lives,” Dervishi said. ICDPPC Chair and UK’s Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham also addressed the participants, saying that the ICDPPC strategy was based on three main pillars – evolution toward global frameworks and standards, greater enforcement cooperation, and identifying priority policy themes. She then provided a recap of the resolutions passed during the first two days of the conference.

Prime Minister Edi Rama also gave welcoming remarks at the opening of Wednesday’s session. “I appreciate what this network brings. We are aware of the fact that we have many things to learn from it. We are opening up to the world with our channels of cooperation and all our international partners,” Rama said.
