VOA: Prevention of misuse of artificial intelligence in Albania

Called by the "Justice and Peace" commission to the "Artificial Intelligence and Peace" meeting, representatives of religious communities agreed on the importance of rapid technological developments, but emphasized the need to establish rules in order to prevent them from being misused by individuals. criminal groups, governments or states, to the detriment of peace and humanity.

"Not only us, but also the European Commission, the European Union, the USA are concerned and we are trying to convince all countries to take measures and establish laws, which limit the use, control it, so that we do not become victims of that that we use every day".

The year 2024 started in Albania with new commitments for the inclusion of artificial intelligence in the governance of the country, such as the approval of the draft law on public procurement through artificial intelligence.

The President of the Episcopal Conference of Albania, Monsignor Angelo Massafra, citing the message of Pope Francis on the World Day of Peace on the future of artificial intelligence between achievements and risks, said that it is necessary to formulate, approve and implement legislative frameworks that regulate the production of forms of artificial intelligence, based on the protection of human rights, the pursuit of justice and peace.

"It will only be possible if we show ourselves capable of acting responsibly and respecting fundamental human values: inclusiveness, transparency, security, individuality, confidentiality and trustworthiness," he said.

While the theologian Arben Halluni, from the Muslim community, drawing attention to the hotbeds of war in several countries of the world, said that technological developments should not serve these wars, but peace.

"As Pope Francis says, in the message at hand, the world does not need new technologies to contribute to the unjust development of the arms market and trade, fueling the madness of war. By doing so, not only the intelligence, but also the human heart itself will risk becoming artificial. The most advanced technical applications should not be used for the violent resolution of conflicts, but to pave the way to peace," he said.

During the pandemic period, Father Nikolla Petani of the Orthodox community said, technological developments helped convey our messages to believers, which technological developments can do quite well in the future if they are used for the benefit of man.

At the "Artificial Intelligence and Peace" meeting, representatives of religious communities emphasized the need for cooperation to face the challenges of the digital revolution to serve a more solidary, fairer and peaceful world./ VOA/
